When I was a teenager of about 12 or 13 I got a guinea pig which I called Barry. Money was short, and we couldn't afford a large cage for him.
Instead, we cleaned an old drawer, which was really huge, included a house, hay and other stuff recommended for a guinea pig's home.
Barry's drawer stood under a bench in the kitchen, so he had always company during the day.
Barry loved carrots and lettuce. He learned quickly that the goodies came out of the fridge. Everytime someone opened the fridge, Barry "asked" for his favourite food. He squeaked and run around in his home until he got a carrot, a piece of apple or whatever was available.
I always thought he was a clever guy.
My comment: I can relate to this as my guinea pigs really beg for food all the time. It's like I don't feed them at all!
Thanks for the story, I love hearing that my pets are not one of the kind, meaning I didn't end up with two craziest ones.
For all of you that are thinking of getting a guinea pig but are not sure about the appropriate cages, you can learn about them at guinea pig cage page. And when it comes to food, don't miss the guinea pig diet tips.
